What is ETIAS italy Application?

The European ETIAS Italy system, like the American Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), has been introduced to strengthen efficiency, security and border control. ETIAS Italy application will be mandatory for all travellers visiting the EU Schengen zone, which includes Italy, who are citizens of a non-EU country that does not require a Schengen visa. Countries included in this list are the UK, the USA, New Zealand, Canada and Australia. It means that UK citizens will need a valid ETIAS visa in order

to travel to Italy or other European ETIAS countries. The information submitted by the ETIAS Italy applicant will be analysed and cross-checked against several databases including Europol, Interpol and the Schengen Information System (SIS). The purpose of this process is to ensure that the applicant is not a known threat to security.

Cancellation or denial of my ETIAS Italy application

Most ETIAS Visa Waiver for Italy applications are approved within minutes of the application being submitted. However, in some rare cases, the applicant may be asked to attend an interview or the application may be denied. This will happen if there are queries regarding the authenticity of the information submitted or there are legal concerns regarding the applicant. Here are some specific examples of why an ETIAS Italy application may not be approved:

  • The applicant has a travel document reported as stolen, misappropriated, or invalidated by the Schengen Information System (SIS).
  • The applicant presents a high epidemic risk.
  • The applicant poses a security threat.
  • The applicant is a potential danger to illegal immigration.
  • The applicant fails to respond to a request to obtain additional information or documentation within the given deadline.
  • The person applying is one for whom there is an alert in SIS that may prevent them from entering or staying.
  • There are reasonable doubts about the authenticity of the information and supporting documents provided by the applicant.
  • The applicant does not attend an additional interview if required.
